Common questions
When can I download Freehands?
Not yet. Early access will be a TestFlight build. Email info@wilddolphin.us with the subject “Early access to Freehands” if you want a note when it opens.
Where does my account live?
On a homeserver you choose, or one a family member runs for the household. Freehands is the app. It is not a single hosted inbox that Wilddolphin reads.
How do hands-free replies work?
The app speaks a new message. You dictate a reply. It reads the reply back. It sends only after you confirm. You can also type.
Can a caregiver read the chat from a website?
No. Encrypted messages are decrypted on the phones that belong to the chat. A caregiver who should read them needs to be in the chat on their own phone.
In a chat, use Report. Write a short reason and send it. The report goes to the homeserver that hosts the account, with the message you are reporting. It is not posted in public.
You can also email info@wilddolphin.us. Include the homeserver address and what happened. Do not forward message text you want to keep private unless you mean for us to read it. If the account is on a homeserver we do not operate, we will tell you how to reach that operator and we will still take a report about the app itself.
Block someone
In the chat, use Block and confirm. You can also say “block” and the person’s name. The app asks before it blocks. Blocked people are listed in Settings, where you can unblock them. Blocking hides their messages from new syncs. It does not delete the chat history already on the phone.
Delete an account
- Open Settings.
- Choose Delete account. Saying “delete my account” opens the same screen. It does not delete anything by itself.
- Enter the account password.
- Type DELETE in capital letters.
- Choose Delete account.
The app asks the homeserver to deactivate the account and erase server-side data, then removes the session and encryption keys on that phone. A wrong password leaves the account in place. If you only sign out, the account remains on the homeserver.
If you cannot open the app, email info@wilddolphin.us from an address you control and include the user id, such as @ruth:example.com. If we do not operate that homeserver, we will tell you who can complete the deletion.
